Director: Satyen Bose

Orphan boy Birju is a gifted painter. One day when he accidentally makes a drawing on a wealthy woman’s bungalow wall, unbeknownst to Birju, the painting becomes the talk of the town. Several people set out to locate this talented young boy — and not everyone is well-intentioned.

Anmol Tasveer is helmed by eminent filmmaker, Satyen Bose, who has directed iconic films like Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Dosti (1964) and Jagriti (1954). Some of Bose’s most recognized ventures — Masoom (1960), Dosti and Jagriti — are childhood/ teenage-centric. And given his steady experience of working with youngsters, the structuring of Anmol Tasveer looks familiar and in sync with the director’s earlier works.

The film features Master Pappu Chagla as the lead character, Birju along with the adorable child artist of the Eighties, baby Geeta Khanna. The film is a Kumar-Ganguly family gathering of sorts, as veteran actor Ashok Kumar — the leading man of many of Bose’s films in the 50s and 60s — stars along with daughter, actress Preeti Ganguly and younger brother, actor Anoop Kumar.

Though Anmol Tasveer doesn’t have the richness of Jagriti or isn’t stirring like Dosti, it is feel good cinema for children with the classic themes of friendship, kindness and real talent shining through.
